No More Super Bugs! Everyday we hear the reports that tell us people are living longer. This is due in part to hospitals treating sicker patients with complex, and often times, invasive techniques. But in these same facilities where physicians, nurses, technologists and aides do their best to treat the patient, some 90,000 Americans pick up infections that can kill them. You read that right, 90,000 people. The super bugs not only have arrived but are on the increase. In the 70’s only a tiny percentage of hospital staph infections were MRSA. By 2004 MRSA accounted for two out of three staph infections. A recent study sponsored by APIC looked at 650 US health care facilities on a single day. Their findings suggest that on an average day, nearly 7,200 hospitalized patients (13 of every 1,000) are colonized, or more often, infected with C. diff. About 300 of those patients will not survive it. These facts emphasize the urgent need for all health facilities to adopt the best practices and products to stop the spread of germs. At TIS, we have made it a priority to provide you with a line of products that will help your facility in the fight to exterminate the super bugs. From safe and simple measures like replacing old, worn table pads with new antimicrobial pads to the entire sterilization of a room with the Tru-D system, we are proud to be proactive in infection control. |
